Julian Cole is the head of Communications Planning at BBH New York, working on PlayStation. Originally from Australia, Julian came to NYC to as a Strategy Director at BBH and worked his way up to become head of the communications planning discipline. Communications planning is a relatively new type of planning, starting in media agencies in the U.K. and now expanding in the U.S.
Communications planning is about architecting the whole campaign, making sure that the most strategic message is being delivered at each point in the consumer journey with increased business growth as the end goal. As Julian puts it, “comms planners are the engineering types in planning”.
Before Julian joined BBH, he began his career at Sputnik in Melbourne, Australia. After moving to Naked Communications he was asked to start the social agency called The Population. He moved over to the digital production agency The Conscience Organisation where he built up their digital and social media department. He is also the co-founder of the extremely useful Planning Salon, and teaches strategy courses on Skillshare.
